3 Cheers for Blogging!

So, I had a blog a few years ago and I was supposed to use it to keep friends and family updated on the cool things I was doing while in college. It didn't work out so well. I got busy...forgot to post...my friends forgot about checking it...I either called or emailed the important people...thus, the death of my first blogging attempt.

Have no fear...I am back! And, this time, my blog is actually an assignment for work! (Just one of the reasons why I love my job!) There are great incentives (an MP3 player) which I desperately need because my stupid ipod is not compatible with netlibrary - grr. Plus, there's going to be tons of moral support (i.e. reminders) to keep me blogging.

WooHoo PLCMC for being so cutting edge! Three Cheers for getting us up off our cyber-butts and moving into the unknown!

Ooh, you've given me a reason to want the MP3 player. I have an ipod, but didn't know it wasn't compatible with net library.

And I also tried to keep a blog awhile back but my life was just not thrilling enough for me to keep up with it. People still kept saying 'you should have a blog/myspace/livejournal/etc. so I started one back in January as a way of keeping track of the books I've read and so far that's worked out well.

I'm excited to learn about all of these features, most of which I've never used. Isn't it great that we work for an organization that encourages this?

Thanks, Lesley, for being my first comment!

I'm definitely checking out your blog for something great to read. I've been in a serious drought all summer. My last great read was The Man of My Dreams by Curtis Sittenfeld.

And I'm soo excited I got that HTML tag right I nearly turned a cartwheel right here at the Public Service Desk. WooHoo!

And, yes, it's great working for PLCMC and folks that encourage blogging and online exploration! Blogging is quick and simple enough that we can even do it in between helping patrons and managing our other tasks! Yay!

Have you read comments Prep by Sittenfeld? I have that on my wishlist but would be curious to learn what you thought about it. It's one of those books people keep asking me if I've read, so I figure it must have something going for it.

I think Prep is a really great and worthwhile read, however, it can be a pretty slow read. It's about a young woman from a normal, middle class family that wins a scholarship to attend an uber-elite private boarding school. Sittenfeld offers an honest and unglamorous portrayal of the elite lifestyle. While Prep was good, I enjoyed The Man of My Dreams a whole lot more - I think I read it in a single Sunday afternoon!

You know what else you should read, since you like Pride and Prejudice you should try the Austen series by Debra White Smith. She puts a modern spin on Jane Austen's books. The two I've read are great.
